A Great Weekend

A friend of mine came in from California this weekend and so we decided to play tourist. We went to the Heard Museum, something I have never done since I moved here in 1995.
We also went to a spring training game and watched the San Francisco Giants play the San Diego Padres. Yes, that is knitting on my lap. I knit 3.5 inches on the Lady Sweater during the 3.5 hour game. We got lucky at the game because a guy asked us out front if we had tickets and when we said no, he gave us tickets right behind home plate.

Sitting behind us was Kurtwood Smith who played the Dad, Red, from That 70's Show and brother.
The view from our great FREE seats.

Last Wednesday

Hannah's school chorus went to the local high school to perform 2 songs in front of 5 other school chorus clubs and also 1 final number with all the kids.
Her chorus performance.
In the evening we met up with one of my old college roommates and her family in town from Moorhead, MN. I have not seen them since a year after I moved to Arizona in 1996.
The kids getting crazy for the photos.... ;)
Cheryl & I. One thing about good friends is that you can just pick up right where you left off even if you haven't seen them in many years!

A Day at the Beach

Our last day we took all our "gear" to the beach.
The girls rode their bikes while Sally & I pulled the wagon of chairs & towels.
The kids played in the sand.
Sally & I held up the beach chairs.

It was not a warm day but our boys are crazy!
Sally & her gang had a wedding to go to on Saturday night so the kids & I went out for dinner at the Beachcomber Cafe. You park your car at a lot and then take a bus down to the restaurant.
The restaurant is right on the beach.

The kids & I ate inside.
I had a very good halibut with mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables and a wonderful sauce.
I washed it down with a raspberry mojito. I am going to have to try this one here at home.

The kids & I on the steps.
After dinner, a lovely sunset!
A great California vacation.

A Day at Knott's Berry Farm

During our vacation we took a trip to Knott's Berry Farm.
I took the boys on their first roller coaster type ride.
The girls went on it later.
Hannah & I were both working our curly hair from the California humidity.
Once the boys went on their first coaster ride, they went on almost all the other ones!

A group photo....Simon, Hannah & I on the left and Sally, her daughter Shelby and son, Kyle.
The boys on the Pony Express.
Sally & Shelby on the Ghost Rider.
The kids riding the rapids. Sally & I decided to stay dry and let the kids get wet without us.
The last picture of the day before we left.
A great day!

Spring Break....Day 1

I took a spring break trip with one of my girlfriends, Sally, and her children! We rented a house near the beach. This is after the drive and my trip to the grocery store while Sally took the kids to the beach.
Snuggling with my boy on the patio.
Sally trying to start the grill.

Simon supervising Shelby's latch hook project.
Hannah's hair already showing that humidity is good for her curls!

Weekend Stuff

Simon seems to rip through his left knee quicker than I can believe.
Instead of buying more pants, I bought iron on patches.
Iron them on the back and they last for much longer than without patches!
I had some split peas in the pantry (turns out I have another stash I found later this morning) so I cooked them.
I then used this recipe for Curried Split Peas & Rice. I used red curry paste instead of green curry paste recommended because I already had it in the fridge.
I added carrots instead of sweet potatoes because that is what I had in the fridge.
I had it for lunch today and have 3 more portions for lunches in the future!
Last night while watching a movie, I finally cast on for the Lady February Sweater. I am using Lion Brand Cotton Ease in Terra Cotta.
I am hoping to wear it this summer at the office when the air conditioning is working very hard to freeze me out!

Crafting & Cooking & Random Photos

I took this photo while out at Dad & Linda's. The orange blossoms smelled amazing!
My sister, Naomi, sent Simon a case for his Nintendo DS.
It also included a screen cleaner, game storage & stylus.
I made a Sofrito recipe on Sunday night that I have been eating this week for lunch. It starts out with pepper, onion, cumin, salt, pepper and garlic.

Adding the beans....
The finished product. I wish I had some fresh cilantro.
I also finished my March Finny & Donk Craft Along March Project. I made the Crooked Coaster.
That sad thing in this adventure is I continue to not need to buy much to make these projects. Leah was making herself comfortable on the batting.
The finished coasters.
